HOW THIS CYCLING TECH SAVED MY MARRIAGE & MY LIFE.

Throughout my adult life I have been an anxious individual. My life is high-stress and always go-go-go. In some cases, I have taken medication. I also have a beautiful wife and kids, a well-paying job with several responsibilities, so in a way, I have been blessed. Throughout Covid, my anxiety developed into depression.

During this downward spiral, my anxiety and then depression started to affect the relationships I had with all the close people in my life, and especially my wife. I had become extremely unpleasant to be around, always frustrated, reserved and far from my regular personality that my family came to love. Then the arguments with my wife began. Aside from the fact that I became overweight, felt like crap, looked like crap, I would start picking fights with the person that was the backbone to my life. I hated myself. We were on the brink of divorce, and I was close to losing everything.

I started seeing a psychiatrist, who tried various medications on me, which didn’t seem to have much of an effect. I was stuck in a loop. Later, I put on even more weight, in which my doctor told me I had high levels of fat around my organs, and that I need to undertake some drastic changes to my diet and exercise routine. After taking this dramatic information in, I decided enough is enough, so I started cycling and monitoring my calories. The effect was instant; however, I was still always extremely anxious on the road. Not feeling as visible as I should be, or the concern of my bike getting stolen, and even the potential of crashing while riding with other cyclists on the bike path was always at the back of my mind, which destroyed my momentum.

I would always find an excuse not to cycle, so I don’t have to feel the anxiety again. Sooner than later my weight came back on and things started to take a downturn again. My wife seeing the drastic difference that cycling made to my life decided to do something about it.
